RGDATA Director General Tara Buckley is an active participant in the National Economic Dialogue which continues today (29/06). The Taoiseach and Ministers for Finance and Public Expenditure opened day one (28/06) by setting out the key drivers that Government will be considering as they plan Budget 2022 and the pathway to economic recovery post Covid.
Speaking at a breakout session Tara Buckley told Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe that independent family owned shops and supermarkets were concerned about the impact of Government plans to introduce sick pay, mandatory pensions and the living wage alongside new sustainability measures that could significantly add to business costs and red tape whilst SMEs are trying to recover from the impact of Covid-19 and lockdowns.
“It is extremely important that as the Government plans for the economic recovery and Budget 22 that you do not impose a whole lot of new costs on SMEs like local shops and supermarkets – we compete every day with the largest grocery Multinationals in the world and we need to be competitive,” Buckley said.
