The Courts Service has confirmed to RGDATA that it has noted our call for a fair margin for retailers to provide in-store court fine payment services.
Courts Service CEO Brendan Ryan responded to RGDATA's letter saying "I note the points raised by you which will be considered in the evaluation process of tenders received".
RGDATA wrote to the Courts Service following the publication of a tender seeking payment services providers to provide court fine payments services in local shops. The closing date for submissions is October 15.
"Providing payment services in local shops involves significant cost and expense for the retailers involved. This is often not reflected in the margin provided to them by the payment services providers. These providers win the tenders on the basis of cost estimates which fail to fully and fairly reflect a margin for the retailer which is both fair, reasonable and proportionate," said Tara Buckley, Director General, RGDATA. "Local retailers must be properly reimbursed for providing these services on behalf of utilities, local authorities and other state bodies such as the Court Service."
